What Do Salvage Yards Do?Salvage yards are typically considered junk heaps where worthless vehicles sit and rot for decades. While it is true that some of the vehicles in a salvage yard are pretty worthless and cannot be used for much more than scrap metal or homes for rodents, there are many vehicles in salvage yards that are incredibly valuable and can be used for a variety of different purposes. I purchased a 2006 Honda Odyssey from Mo Pour at Accord Auto Recycler in December 2010. I waited 3 months to see if any issues arose and am thrilled to report the van has been virtually flawless. I needed a family vehicle after our 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan started having reliability problems. Mo owns and runs a Honda & Acura parts and repair shop and they sell the odd vehicle as well. I was a little apprehensive about driving from San Diego to Riverside to look at a van but developed some measure of confidence after speaking to Mo on the phone. After both my wife and I spent some time with him and inspected the vehicle in great detail, we both felt we had found an honorable man and an honest shop that truly knew their stuff when it came to Hondas. Now I know why I saw a guy fly in from the Bay Area to pick up an Acura for his daughter. We ended up getting a great deal from Mo on the Odyssey. I brought it the next day to the local Honda dealership for a detailed inspection and it came back with a perfect score card. The technician was impressed with the repair work and confirmed that we got a great deal. This Odyssey has lived up to its reputation as one – if not the best Minivan on the market, and has not had a single problem for 5K miles. These have been hard miles – short trips to school, grocery stores, etc and long trips to the ski hills in California & Utah. Bottom line is that I believe Mo is trustworthy and offers great value. I plan on contacting him again for our next vehicle purchase.
